Highlights

  • The second four-day match between India A and South Africa A will be played on Tuesday.
  • The first match played between the two teams was drawn due to bad weather.
  • Meanwhile, the threat of a new variant of Corona is also looming large in South Africa.

Amidst the threat of a new variant of the coronavirus, the India A team will play South Africa in the second unofficial Test starting Tuesday, while players trying to make it to the senior team will want to leave a mark of their performance. The first four-day Test was drawn last week due to bad weather. Meanwhile, due to Corona’s new variant Omicron, many countries have banned travel from South Africa.

For this reason, the Netherlands decided not to play the last two ODIs to be held in Johannesburg. The India A team, however, is stuck here in the bio bubble. The matches are being played without spectators and the senior India team is also coming here on a seven-week tour on December 9. However, if the situation worsens, the tour may be called off in which three Tests, three ODIs and four T20 matches are to be played.

India A players, however, will have to focus on cricket instead of thinking about the pandemic. In the first match, the batsmen did well with Abhimanyu Easwaran scoring a century while captain Priyank Panchal scored 96 as India posted 308 for four in reply to South Africa’s 509 (innings declared). The match could not be played on the last day due to rain.

Opener batsman Prithvi Shaw scored 48 runs and he would like to play a good innings once again. Hanuma Vihari, who was not selected in the Test team against New Zealand, could only score 25 runs and would now like to find the rhythm. India’s bowling is a cause for concern as the hosts had piled up runs. Navdeep Saini and Arjan Nagwaswala got two wickets while Umran Malik could take only one wicket. Among the spinners, Rahul Chahar took one wicket for 125 runs but K Gautam and Baba undefeated failed.
